Then and Now

This resource is developed to give students the opportunity to investigate characteristics and properties of a range of materials, systems, components, tools and equipment from modern and past times.

To do this, students will compare and investigate materials, and tools and equipment used by pioneer and modern day families before predicting changes that may occur in the future.

Students will be required to design a house plan, inclusive of materials, tools and equipment of the pioneer family (on paper), before transforming this plan to a modern day design using Minecraft.

Differentiation of the resource will depend on students within the class. Catalogues for pictures and a diarama may be considered for use.

Consider locating some older day tools such as an iron, kettle or similar that you can use as a physical object for students to manipulate and compare
